Finally, by its very nature, STUN does NOT work with and is completely useless with symmetric NAT routers. Because the symmetric NAT router assigns a unique port number for each unique combination of end points, any port data that the STUN server reports will always be different than what the router actually assigns for VoIP and therefore can never be used for VoIP communication (as it's tied to the STUN server). This is true with all symmetric NAT routers. STUN with symmetric NAT is useless. However, depending on the adapter, it may be harmless to enable STUN, as the STUN tests reveal the symmetric NAT, and any correctly designed adapter will as a result refrain from using the STUN discovered public port.
