...The young girl should not have been out that far (not that I haven't been out there alone in that very spot myself dozens of times!), and I'm afraid you're right - she was in the shark's prime territory. I just learned today that the boy was fishing - that was most definitely the cause of his attack. I'm glad he survived. Where in east FL are you? It seems these bull shark attacks occur most commonly on the panhandle, but I know many attacks (by bulls and others) have taken place in Volusia county and near Boca Raton. I visit the panhandle at least 1-2 weeks every year and have spent hours in the Gulf - in the shallows and beyond the sandbar - and I've only seen a shark once. They tend to shy away from people, which is why I'm wondering whether all these media photos of bull sharks in the shallows are really from the last few days.
